It’s not often that a brand of men’s clothing comes around that actually understands men. Real men.
Men who would rather spend their evenings watching the match with their buddies than laying out their clothing for the next day. It’s not to say that being current isn’t important – a guy’s gotta look good! – and of course there are exceptions to every rule but, for the most part, men love simplicity.
We women love to be romanced by our clothing. We want to know the back story of the designer and what inspired them. We follow trends and get aroused by the details. Did you see the AW13 collection from Marc? Those bold mod colours were incredible – I’m definitely wearing a pop color lip all season! We buy wants instead of needs nine out of ten purchases.
These are not things that concern many men. There are three questions they ask: Do I need it? Do I like it? Does it fit? If yes, then the sale is made. This is especially true when it comes to the essentials: jackets, button up shirts, jumpers, tee shirts and, of course, jeans.
Over the last ten years I have seen way too many men’s denim brands bust out studs, stitches and rinses that were completely unnecessary. I’m not sure who was being consulted when these were being designed, but I know it wasn’t your average 25-35 year old guy’s-guy. These are jeans, people! A staple to be worn from casual Sunday to nights out on the town with your lady. In my opinion, a man’s jeans shouldn’t make a statement, but should be an understated foundation for the rest of their look. Over-styled men belong in boy bands from the ‘90s.
Luckily, I recently stumbled across London based denim house, Jean Machine, which has really nailed the effortlessness of male style. Clean cuts, straight-forward washes – just great jeans. Don’t take my word for it, check them out HERE.
Simplicity really is best.
