Where are all of my work-from-home, stay-at-home moms at?
Working from home can be tough, but it’s especially difficult when you’re also a stay-at-home mom. In addition to taking care of your little one (or little ones), you have to keep up with all of your business, finances, your home, and not to mention your children! It can be especially difficult to stay organized, and I know first-hand. As someone who has a Bachelor’s degree in Organizational Communication Studies, I know how important organization is. Without it, we lose sight of what needs to be done, we lose track of what’s important, and we end up in messy, jumbled, chaotic home where nothing gets done and no one is happy. Who wants that? Nobody.
This is why I strive to stay organized with a three simple items:
Wall Calendar
I don’t know about you, but it helps me to be able to see what I have going on right in front of me. With two calendars like the AT-A-GLANCE Monthly Desk Calendar, one business, and one personal, I’m able to keep track of appointments, due dates, meetings, projects, trips, events, and more. It’s easy, it’s right in front of my eyes so I don’t have to go looking for it, and you can keep it even more organized with highlighters color-coded to specific categories (like due dates or doctor’s appointments).
Post-Its
I can’t be the only one with Post-It notes all over my office, can I? They are quick and easy, can be moved, can be easily thrown away when a task is completed, and they remind me to do the little things (like taking the recycling out or giving the dogs their monthly medicines). The Post-it Brand recently introduced the World of Color collections that features a new line of Post-it Notes in a range of eye-catching color palettes inspired by the unique trends and cultures of nine vibrant cities around the world including: Bali, Bora Bora, Cape Town, Helsinki, Jaipur, Marrakesh, Marseille, New York, and Rio de Janeiro. *The great folks at Post-It sent me some samples of the new collection.* I must say that it was love at first sight.
The new color palettes make for stylish life essentials ideal for easy and chic organization while adding a splash of bold and beautiful color to daily to-dos. The new color palettes were actually created in conjunction with research developed by Post-it Brand on how color can transform and impact your life every day of the week.
The research revealed information about color including:
- Creativity can be enhanced with serene blues and calm greens
- Wearing red can help shape your wardrobe and add confidence to your appearance
- Adding a burst of color can help you stay on task with daily to-do lists
I think my favorite is the “Cape Town Collection” and the “New York City”collection. Let’s face it there is nothing better than office supplies that are chic, fun, and get the job done!
A trusty, travel-size planner
I have the Kate Spade Large Agenda and I adore it! The price tag is a little higher, but it’s worth it for the great organization, beautiful cover, and sweet, inspirational quotes throughout. I keep track of what I’ve done during the day, my shopping list, important deadlines, library book due dates, and more, and it’s so nice to have it with me when I’m running around with my daughter. It was worth every penny!
My organizational items may seem a little calendar-heavy, but what’s a better way to keep organized than to keep track of everything you have going on? By pairing those gorgeously colored Post-Its with an easy-to-see calendar and an easy-to-carry planner, you may just find that working from home is a little bit easier, even when your little one is tugging at your side because they are ready for their mid-afternoon snack!
