As many of you know I have been looking for a part time work at home job because I needed more interaction with people verbally and I also need more of a challenge! My friends and family really don’t understand my reasons since I do make a pretty good income blogging. However If you are like me and spend many hours online blogging, talking to people through social media sites, instant messaging and email I am sure that you understand!. However, I didn’t want to go outside the house to work! Those days are long over for me! I have been spoiled being able to work from home so long I honestly don’t know how I would make it working out of the house.
So I am happy to share I officially started training yesterday for my new job! I will be working for one of the top fortune 500 companies taking inbound customer service and tech calls. I am very excited about this great opportunity and the challenges ahead. Not to mention I use the products every day that I will be taking calls for so that’s another great perk.
However, I must admit that I am a little nervous about the 6 weeks in-depth training and the final test that I have to pass to keep employment. I think the biggest challenge I personally will have is actually learning the IMac and leaving my beloved PC! I must admit I am learning the IMac faster than I thought and already in LOVE with it just like I am with all my apple products.
So far the training is very intense and covers ton of information. I feel that this is very important and feel blessed that I will have so much support to gain the knowledge that I need to allow me to be ready to go into production. I have worked on other projects where the training was just the basic and after that I was left on my own! It was a nightmare to say the least. Luckily for me I am the type of person who doesn’t give up and will take time to learn what I need on my own time.
I feel that companies are starting to understand why great training is so important for these positions! I have been working from home since 2005, and I have seen many people not even make it one week after training. The turnover rate for inbound customer service and tech support is extremely high! Yes, I admit sometimes these jobs are very stressful but I honestly feel if the agents are fully trained and know what to expect we would see the turnover rates become a lot smaller. So knowing that my company takes the training period so serious makes me feel even better with my choice.
Let’s face it more and more companies are outsourcing their calls to 3rd party call centers and most of them allow you to work from the comfort of your own home. These types of jobs are perfect for parents who still want to work, but be able to stay at home with the kids. This also allows business to provide 24/7 support to their customers by providing inbound customer service and tech support while saving on utilities, and rental fees for building space. It’s a win-win for everyone. This also explains why training is extremely important! You are often the first contact for most of these callers so you want to make sure that you provide high quality service and be able to answer all those odd questions that come your way.
I will be honest working from home isn’t for everybody! I always tell anyone that is new to working from home that it takes a lot of self-discipline. Just because you work from home doesn’t mean that you can do whatever you want! These are real jobs and you have to act and present yourself just like you would if you were in the actual business location.
So I have decided to blog more about work at home jobs and post leads that I come across since I seem to get tons of emails asking for more info, so be sure to check back soon, in the mean time keep me in your well wishes!!
