Are your kids growing up and getting into those lovely teenage years that all parents love?! We all have been there, when teens hit that puberty stage they can be a bit difficult to deal with. They can get very shy because their body is changing, they can begin to get more rebellious because they’re growing up and think they should be able to do what they would like and the best part of all, they get those lovely hormonal mood swings! I know it can be a bit difficult to get through this time with your kids but lucky for you, I have a few tips to make the journey a bit easier for you!
1. Acknowledge their Hormones: Make sure they know that you do know what they are going through and you totally understand it! After all, you were a teen at some point in your life. If they haven’t experienced all of the fun changes in their body from puberty, let them know what is going to happen with their bodies so they have an idea of what they are in for as they get older.
2. Give them Space: Chances are with all of their raging hormones you will probably get in more arguments with them due to them getting upset and over dramatic about simple things, it’s not necessarily their fault…hormones can really do that to a person! LOL If they storm off to their room, let them hang out in there by themselves for a bit! Sometimes they just need a little time to gather their emotions and calm down.
3. Take Advantage of the Happy Times: Your teens will definitely not be in a bad mood all the time, you will still have a majority of the time where they are the same happy go lucky kid you’ve loved since the day they were born, take advantage of that! Spend time together and remain close to them, this makes for a comfortable relationship and they will be more likely to talk to you about any problems they may have in the future.
4. Keep them Healthy: With them getting older and going through the period of puberty your body begins to react a bit differently to things. I would recommend you keep them sticking to healthy habits such as eating a lot of fruits and vegetables and make sure they practice good hygiene! Showering regularly and make sure they know to wash their face in the morning and at night to refrain from the dreaded acne we all suffer from at that age!
Living with hormonal teens can be a bit difficult but just remember.. It doesn’t last forever! These tips should help to make the process a bit less stressful for the both of you!!
