Nearly 36 million Americans suffer from migraines, and if you are one of them, then you know that migraines are not just headaches. Sometimes the headache pain can be so severe it is accompanied by nausea and vomiting, as well as sensitivity to light and sound. Because of this, people may turn to alternative ways to help them calm down these responses, e.g. looking at the link between cannabis nausea to see if it can help, as well as using other calming practices for these symptoms.
These symptoms can be severe enough to put a migraine sufferer out of commission for hours, or even for days at a time. The triggers for migraines include lack of sleep, changes in the weather, stress, bright lights, loud noises, and dietary issues. Not all of these can be avoided, so if you find yourself suffering suddenly from a migraine, or the onset of one, try the following tips to help with alleviating the migraine.
Keep a migraine diary
Use a small diary to record your daily activities and your migraines. You just have to jot down your basic activities, what the weather is like during the day, the amount of sleep you had the night before, and what you ate during the day. Then, write down if and when you experience a migraine. Doing this for about a 30-day period can help you see patterns in your migraines. By seeing what activities are most likely to trigger a migraine, you can help avoid them or be better prepared for a migraine that is likely to happen.
Follow all doctor instructions
If your doctor has prescribed a treatment plan for your migraines, be sure to follow the whole plan, each day, exactly as prescribed by your physician. This will ensure that you are doing everything properly to help alleviate migraine pain and the frequency of when you get the migraines.
Create a migraine “kit”
In order to prepare for a sudden migraine attack, create an emergency migraine kit. Things to put in your kit include sunglasses to help if you have sensitivity to light, plastic bags for vomiting, breath mints in case you do vomit, water to help with dehydration, and small snacks to help if you have not had a chance to eat.
Motivational alerts
If you have a computer or smartphone, you can set alerts that pop up like texts. Suffering from migraines can limit the things you are bale to accomplish and can make you feel like you are not being the best mom, friend, or wife you can be. Migraines can severely limit the things you are able to do and deal with every day, and not just from the headache pain.. Nausea, vomiting, sensitivity to light and sound, and feeling sick can all impact your day and make it hard to function. Set alerts on your phone or in your computer that reminds you to take each day as it comes. Do what you can. Remember that you are doing your best, and you are not lazy. Don’t let the migraine pain make you lose confidence or sight of how loved you are.
