Did you know that this week, April 7th – April 13th was National Boys & Girls Club Week?! I have been so busy packing and moving that I forgot to share with you sooner! I had plans to post about this last week! As many of you know my family is a big supporter of the Boys & Girls Club. We have seen firsthand how important Boys & Girls club is for the community. The service they provide for the kids is well needed and much appreciated. I should know, I went to boys & Girls club as a child myself. I always tell people that Boys & Girls Club kept and still does keep many kids out of trouble by giving them a fun, safe place to stay.
For more than 100 years, Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) has provided kids just like myself with a safe environment and engaging activities to help them reach their full potential as productive and responsible citizens. With over 4,000 Boys & Girls Clubs open that means millions of kids are served.
National Boys & Girls Club Week was established to celebrate the invaluable service that Clubs bring to communities and to highlight why great futures start at Boys & Girls Clubs. Clubs provide caring guidance and fun, engaging programs that help kids: do well in school, give back to their communities and choose healthy lifestyles. Thousands of Clubs across the country will be holding Boys & Girls Club Week celebrations – including opportunities to hear from kids and other stakeholders about the ways that Clubs transform young lives.
WHY PARTICIPATE: This year, we are celebrating National Boys & Girls Club Week (April 7-13) byencouraging everyone to “Open the door. Take the tour.” Local communities will be encouraged to visit a local Club and see the magic happening behind their blue doors or, take the virtual Club tour at greatfutures.org.
WHEN IT IS: National Boys & Girls Club Week will be held April 7-13, 2013. A virtual Club tour is available at greatfutures .org throughout the weeklong celebration.
In addition, Clubs across the country will plan fun daily activities for Club members, their parents and the entire neighborhood to enjoy. These events include teen forums, carnivals, health fairs and so much more. Many Boys & Girls Club leadership and service groups (such as Torch and Keystone Clubs for tween and teen Club members) also use the week as a chance to give back to the community byvolunteering at homeless shelters or assisted living facilities.
Even though I am late posting you can always support the Boys & Girls club by cash donations or volunteering your time. I really love giving back to my community and I don’t know better way to do it then support the kids! They are our future. “I wrote this review while participating in a campaign for Mom Central Consulting on behalf of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. I received a promotional item to thank me for taking the time to participate.”
