Celebrate this Father’s Day by celebrating one of dad’s favorite pastime, BBQ. Grilling on the BBQ can be complex but as we all know, well worth it. There are many fine points to grilling, here a few to try out this Father’s Day:
Be Organized
There are a lot of tools and ingredients involved in even the simplest of BBQ recipes. Take time before you begin grilling to make sure you have all of the ingredient you need and in the places you need them. Make sure all of your tools are organized and easily accessible. You’ll have enough on your grill to worry about, searching for tools or ingredients could be the difference between a perfect or undercooked steak. Being organized will make your grilling a lot more enjoyable.
Delegate
If you are grilling, the odds are you have plenty of company. Make those freeloaders (guests) earn your grilling delicacies. Have a friend, child, relative be your wingman. Relaying messages to the other cooks inside, fetching various tools and ingredients you may have left inside. Avoid making any other dishes besides what will be grilled. Leave side dishes, drinks, etc. to someone else. The grilled dishes are the star of the BBQ if their ruined the BBQ is. Stay with the grill at all costs. Having a pair of eyes on the grill at all times is not only good for the food but also important for safety. Anytime there’s an open flame its best to have an adult watching it at all times.
Quick Perfect Coals
A great way to get your coals evenly-ashed quickly is a chimney starter. With a chimney starter you simply need to place the coals inside and light with a piece of paper or napkin. The coals will burn quickly and evenly without lighter fluid. Once they are ready pour them into the grill and start cooking.
Cleaning Your Grill
Despite what many enthusiasts may say cleaning a grill is best for flavor and safety. The best time to clean your grill is immediately after cooking or as soon as you have finished preheating. It’s easiest to remove debris with a wire brush when the grates are hot.
When your Father’s Day grilling is fun and organized it will be just as enjoyable as when Dad did it. Enjoy your Father and grilling this Father’s Day. For some great BBQ recipes, tips, and grilling tricks visit www.chefs.edu.
